The
SUCCESS for Youth Task Force
After Murphy-Harpst, Inc. purchased the SUCCESS Center site,
it took leadership in forming a coalition of juvenile justice
judges and providers of regional youth programs to help determine
those services most needed in northwest Georgia.
This group, eventually named the SUCCESS (Strategically United
Community Collaboration to Establish Successful Services)
for Youth Task Force, includes regional directors of the Departments
of Family and Children’s Services, Juvenile Justice,
Mental Health, and Family Connections; Juvenile Court Judges;
other representatives from the mental health community; Murphy-Harpst’s
vice president for SUCCESS Center and the organization’s
CEO.
The goal of the Task Force is to create a network of services
for children and youth who have mental health needs and for
whom appropriate services have not been available or accessible.
When needs are identified, the Task Force members will determine
whether or not the appropriate services are available anywhere
in the region. If not, they will recommend if or how that
need can be met on the SUCCESS Center campus.
Membership in the prestigious Reclaiming Futures Initiative
of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation was extended to the
Task Force in 2003. This initiative is comprised of approximately
20 sites across the nation that have been selected to develop
models in substance abuse treatment and the development of
systems of care for children and youth. This affiliation provides
access to web-based training in treatment best practices as
determined by current research; telephone consultation as
needed from a consortium of national experts; national conferences
for updated training, information, and connection to other
sites around the nation who are involved in this initiative
– all at no cost to participants.
