Murphy-Harpst Children's Centers, Inc., an agency of the United Methodist Church, located in Cedartown, GA, is an independent not-for-profit organization committed to meeting the needs of abused and neglected young people through residential treatment, placements in specialized foster care, and community programs that serve at-risk children and their families.  Murphy-Harpst  announces the employment opportunities listed below.    

 

 

Candidate must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age or older.  Pass a pre-employment drug screen.  Have a clean criminal background, FBI fingerprint scan .  Have a favorable review from ten (10) year employment history, and relative/social reference.   Possess a current valid driver’s license.  Provide a current three (3) year M.V.R. (motor vehicle report) if age twenty-five (25) or older.

Physical Requirements:  Applicant must be physically and emotionally fit to perform duties by being able to do the following on a regular scheduled basis:  Ability to lift 60-120 pounds unassisted or 120-200 pounds with assistance, be able to withstand long periods of standing, walking or taking part in physical activities; maneuver up and down stairs; highly alert with very quick reflexes in order to respond to emergency situations; able to perfrom TCI restraints without causing harm to the child, yourself, or others.

Summary of Essential Functions:  The Cottage Life Assistant (CLA) assures the safety and basic emotional needs of the residents in our care are met, providing necessary supervision and individual attention. The CLA serves as a role model to communicate and support the basic philosophy, policies, rules, procedures and programs to our residents.  The CLA is responsible for various aspects of the plan of care for the residents including proper documentation, and eencouraging/supporting residents in meeting their goals.  The CLA works cooperatively in a team relationship with the Cottage Leader and Assistant Cottage Leader to provide superlative care and treatment.  Other duties of the CLA include (but are not limited to) maintaing cottage cleanliness, meal preparation, participation in activities with residents, and assist with transportation needs as assigned.  All cottage staff is expected to be alert and attentive during their shift. 
Due to the reduction in resident acitivity during 3rd shift hours, it is imperative that 3rd shift staff stay awake and alert throughout the duration of their shift.

Cottage Life Assistant

SHIFT:  2nd (3:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.) and 3rd (11:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.)

SALARY:  Pay is based on education level and care experience

BENEFITS:

Qualifications

Educational / Work Experience:  High School Diploma or GED AND two (2) years of direct service experience with children and families OR Associates Degree or higher in behavioral or social science field.

Agency Specific:  Ability to think globally, solve problems and have good decision-making skills, including critical thinking skills. Strong written and oral communication skills. Proficiency in computer skills, especially Outlook, Word and Excel. Ability to work in and adapt to the culture of multi-cultural, community based organization. Commitment to maintain confidentiality. Understanding of the Agency’s mission and culture and the ability to maintain appropriate boundaries with staff and clients in all circumstances.
