Serving Children is a Murphy-Harpst Tradition
Serving children and families since 1924, Murphy-Harpst is a childcare agency rich in history. Today, MH remains committed to meeting the needs of children and their families in Georgia.
Our current multi-dimensional program grows out of this
rich history. Founded in 1931, the Sarah
D. Murphy Home was the one of the first orphanages in
the state of Georgia for African-American children. The Ethel
Harpst Center, located on 160 wooded acres in Cedartown,
Georgia, was founded in 1924 to care for dependent children
in need from the rural areas and mill communities. Over the
years, the programs of Murphy-Harpst Children's Centers has
grown to meet the changing needs of children and families.
Murphy-Harpst Children's Centers, Inc. is an independent not-for-profit agency related to the General Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church. The services of Murphy-Harpst are available to all children regardless of sex, race, color, or creed, and whose needs can be addressed and treated within the scope of program services.
